SAVOR: So You Want More Wisdom, eh?

"The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet."
 - James Oppenheim

Wisdom is earned.  With each hardship, there is a lesson. Each time we make the decision to be patient, learn all the details, be coached or become an apprentice of life, we find rich soil on which to grow beautiful new well earned success.

Sometimes we have to choose to take the long way around, take our time, wait on something, save for it, earn it when we could easily give up or decide if it's not coming easily it's not meant to me.

Sometimes....the waiting is where we find the true wisdom to be successful and what true freedom in choices -even the ones that caused delayed gratification - feels like.

I am Thinking Maybe I Need More Discipline in My Life

Remember when you were a kid and you had all of these boundaries around everything,  What to wear, how to dress what time you needed to be home where you were allowed to go.

Maybe you grew up and threw off all the shackles and had a few years of rebellion.

Sooner or later we start to realize discipline at least in some areas boundaries are actually necessary.

Boundaries now equate to Discipline.  It helps us to get things done, to reach goals, to make changes.

I would say that to bring more joy into our lives we need to have a discipline of sorts.

Discipline around:

What we talk about
What we let get into our minds and our hearts
Who we associates with
How we let negativity affect us

ACTION MOMENT:

Pick one of these areas in which to incorporate more discipline this week:

What you talk about
What you let get into your mind and your heart
Who you associate with
How you let negativity affect you

What Did you Say? For Some Reason I Think I Heard you Wrong.

Words
Thoughts
Mannerisms
Posture
Tone

These cues are little mirrors into what you are thinking about yourself.  And like a mirror, these signals not only reflect back to you but out into the world. Your family and friends - REALLY GOOD ones - can help you see your authentic self.

Many times we seem to be the last to recognize how the world is viewing us.

Do you have someone who can tell you honestly what they see about you - good and bad?  Tell you where they see your potential?  Help you discern a vision for your life?  I hope you do this is such a valuable part of living a fulfilled life and truly ensuring that you are TRULY you.

ACTION MOMENT:
Ask at least one person you trust to tell you how she envisions your life

Reaping and Sowing in your Thinking

Reaping and Sowing

I remember an episode of  a show called Little House on the Prairie where a father was reprimanding his daughter for something she had done and he said these words, YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW.  Later in life when I read the verse in the bible my mind immediately flashed back to this memory and all I could think was how careful I needed to be because all my bad decisions will come back and get me.

Many times that is true of course though thank God that He has extended to me tons of grace where that is not always the case.  I started thinking that maybe just maybe good things sown will reap good benefits and what if I extend that realization to good thoughts leading to positive outcomes.  Maybe there is something to be said about making a shift mentally first which might elicit a subsequent change in the outcome I will experience later.

I find this to be true when I have facing a difficult task that needs to be done which I know will be a benefit to future opportunities that come my way.

Action Moment:

This week bring the reaping and sowing philosophy into one area in your life which you are experiencing frustration.   Take a moment to really pay attention to all the thoughts surrounding the situation including feelings of helplessness and despair.  Decide on one or two little adjustments in your perspective on how to handle the circumstance.

Irresistible YOU

What makes someone irresistible?

Really take some time to think about this and come up with 4 or 5 characteristics of this person.

Here is what I see:
a quite confidence
a sense of peace
comfort in their own skin
grace under pressure

What I find about my list is that this is not something you necessarily pick up on immediately.  You have got to spend a little time with someone in order to really gauge these any genuine qualities.  There needs to be a relationship.  Some people can initially come across as confident but you find later on that there are some contradicting qualities that rise to the surface like insecurity.  Someone so polished on the outside can really be hanging on by a thread in their life when it comes to decisions they need to make but are afraid to step into.

Action Moment:

What about you makes you feel irresistible?  What qualities would you like to cultivate more to ground you into your most irresistible

Time to Give Yourself a Life Makeover

I woke up the other day and | realized I was a bit tired of.. me.

We tend to get into a rut about how we view things, talk about our lives, worry about our future.

I decided that today I would do things differently. Just for a day.  I got up that morning and decided absolutely no internet.  Then I sat down on my couch and watched 3 television shows in a row without guilt that there was laundry to do or any other pressing chore within arms reach. Then I went to the coffee shop and had a pastry without any thought of calorie count.  I went home and went through my closet and gave away things that I just did not want to talk myself into wearing anymore.  Then I took a look n the mirror and cut some bangs in my hair and I wore my makeup a different way.  Finally when I felt tired I just went to bed .

Now I will admit this was one of those rare days when I did not have to be anywhere and my little one was being cared for by my spouse which, to be honest, is actually part of my makeover day.  I gave myself permission to be by myself without feeling guilty of not taking advantage of family time.

The next day I felt a little shift.  I gave myself permission to stop expecting to accomplish so much in a day.

Action Moment:
Do you need to give your life a mini makeover? If so, what would you do that day?  What would you wear?  What would you eat?  Who would you connect with?  Pick the day and relish the time.
