Three things that make life more delightful: Creating, Graphic Novels, Dry Humor and Dinner and a Movie
Christine Nishiyama is doing great things and oh my what a cute graphic novel - this is part of a series, by the way. She offers us 4 Steps to Get out of a Creative Funk: CLICK HERE
Have you heard of David Shrigley? Here is a sample of his work so you can get a sense of him - and then go check him out: CLICK HERE
Here's his bio:
"David Shrigley is an artist and illustrator best known for his mordantly humorous cartoons. Self-branded as an outsider in the art world, Shrigley is known for making flat compositions that take on the inconsequential, the bizarre, and the disquieting elements of everyday life. Like the musings of a very wise child displaying the wit and humor of a seasoned observer of the adult world, his illustrations feature crossed-out words, scribbled, uneven lines, and darkly funny aphorisms about the world."
I don't think I have ever talked about how much I truly love the combining of dinner and a movie. I mean, a comfy seat, perfect! An adult beverage, delightful! And of course, popcorn at the ready whenever, WHENEVER!

The Burning Word Book Club: What does Reverence Mean?
Welcome to the burning word book club!
We are in part four which is really the beginning of chapter two and this is the burning word bible study that we're going through right now and it's actually more of a book club study you can use it as a meditation but i also invite you to use it as conversation um just for how you digest the bible spirituality god the way in which you believe God wants to engage us in the world that's basically what the first three parts of this is is going through that first chapter and really laying the groundwork for what we're going to start discussing in this book.
So let's get started. Chapter 2 is titled the word is real and that's the subtitle and the main title is reverence i was 19 years old before it dawned on me that the 23rd psalm was not written in english of course i had known for many years that the books my tradition called the old testament was written in hebrew and the books we called the new testament were written in greek but it wasn't until i was in college that a little window opened in my mind and i suddenly encountered the fundamental otherness of my bible's language the psalmist was not a 20 a late 20th century american the psalmist was not a young girl lying on a rubber line mattress in a college dorm room greeting the betrayal of a high school boyfriend and searching for some comfort among the words of a poem she had known since childhood you anoint my head with oil the psalm declared my cup overflows suddenly the bible's foreignness overwhelmed me...
The book i held in my hand had come to me down many twisting trails and through many fragmentations of language it was a miracle it was an oracle it was mine and not mine all at once my realization that the psalm was written in an ancient tongue i see now was the comfort i was seeking for when i tucked that suddenly strange text under my arm and walked outside with an inexplicable need to get moving i felt the trees and the very sidewalks holding me up.

Intro to Imaginative Prayer: God as Rescuer Guided Meditation Breathing Sitting Quiet Connection
hi there welcome back to imaginative prayer this is a time where you can find a place to just sit and allow the words of this meditation
to wash over you
maybe take a few deep breaths
whether you're sitting in a chair or you're sitting on a floor
just really feel the grounding either in your feet or in your sits bones
find a place to put your hands where you don't have a lot of movement so either on your belly maybe even giving yourself a hug
you could have them in prayer
or you could have them on your heart
just breathing
today's meditation
god as rescuer
you open your eyes and look around you sit up not knowing where you are or how you got there
you're on the edge of a spacious meadow there's a stream nearby and flowers everywhere
you hear birds and see butterflies
a grove of trees partly shades you from the sun
you slowly realize you're not alone
you've actually been resting on a comforting lap
looking into the eyes of your comforter
into the eyes of god
you ask the question on your mind
how am i safe
i was drowning
god smiles and helps you lie down again
you close your eyes as god strokes your hair and begins to speak you were in the middle of a stormy ocean
the waves surrounded you and you were about to go under for the last time
i saw you and i rescued you
you slowly remember a crazy and unbelievable scene
the sky is dark the waves are rough
your stomach tightens with fear as you frantically tread water gulp it down and sink
you feel the numbing cold
you taste the choking saltiness
your confused mind is frozen in fear knowing your strength is gone and you're about to drown
then a powerful earthquake shakes the mountains
god appears and smoke billows from god's nostrils
you see fire come from god's mouth as god's voice thunders from heaven
god splits open the sky and flies on the wings of the wind to your rescue
strong hands reach down and take hold of you pulling you from deep waters
you struggle to catch your breath as shock mixes with fear and exhaustion you lose consciousness as you're lifted to safety
as your mind returns to the peace of the meadow
god gently says
i brought you to this spacious place
i rescued you because you are my delight
my child
my love rest now dear one
you are safe picture the god in this meditation
the god whose voice and breath move the
ocean can you believe god would move all of nature to rescue you
can you imagine how important you must be to god
what thoughts and feelings come up as a thought of that picture god gently holding your head and inviting you to rest
what emotions does this image of god bring up for you
how do the words you are safe make you feel
what do they mean to you
how do you feel when you're told that you are god's delight
god's child god's love
take a few moments and say i am god's delight
i am god's child
i am god's
love
go ahead and spend a few moments with these thoughts you may choose to lay rest in savasana
but commit to keeping this feeling this consciousness throughout the rest of the day thanks so much for stopping by
